Prepares, records and logs data performs simple typing of records.Operates a variety of communications equipment including radio transmitters and receivers, telephones, land lines and teletype equipment.
Dispatches police and public safety equipment to the scene of the incident or assists callers by providing information and/or referrals to other agencies. Evaluates information to determine jurisdiction and equipment needed. Receives emergency calls, complaints and inquiries from the public.Other duties may be required and assigned. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. The following duties are normal for this position. Entry-level Dispatchers will start at $27.00 per hour. One week you will work three 12-hour shifts the next week you will work three 12-hour shifts and one 8-hour shift. Public Safety Dispatchers are required to work holidays and weekends, as well as evening, night, and early morning shifts. Additional duties include, but are not limited to maintaining radio logs and other records, and performing typing assignments. Responsibilities include the daily use of the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, 9-1-1 phone system, and radio equipment. Dispatchers will also receive and dispatch calls for the Animal Services Operation. Dispatchers will need to make independent decisions with after-the-fact supervisory review. Each call is evaluated and the appropriate Public Safety personnel and equipment are dispatched to handle the situation. Dispatchers will be expected to receive 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency telephone calls and assist citizens with requests for service and general inquiries. The Public Safety Dispatcher is the primary link between the public and police officers.
